The Caught Short Film Festival screens on the first Thursday of each month at the TAP Gallery, Darlinghurst.

Caught Short is not a competition! It is a supportive space where film makers can screen their work and be involved in valuable discussion with an audience and other filmmakers.The Caught Short screenings are intimate and inclusive. The TAP Gallery is a community arts space and provides the perfect place for film makers to become accustomed to public screenings, whilst providing the opportunity to network with other artists, filmmakers, actors, festival organisers and many more.

United Way Sydney is currently coordinating an initiative called ‘Local Eyes’ – an event that celebrates expressions of our community through a different lens.

This is a photographic exhibition with a difference: 45 individuals supported by our community partners have been given training, a digital camera, and paired up with a volunteer mentor, to take photos of the Sydney they live in. The photographs will be featured in a free public exhibition at Customs house from 26 – 29 March. Please drop in and pay us a visit, the opening hours are listed below

In addition we are pleased to announce that our Local Eyes website is now live! This site provides an interactive location to view some of the photos taken by our 40 participants and to learn more about them and the community organisations that support them.

What is Pecha Kucha Night?

Pecha Kucha Night, devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham architecture), was conceived in 2003 as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.

But as we all know, give a mike to a designer (especially an architect) and you’ll be trapped for hours. The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for avoiding this fate. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each – giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.

Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. This is a† demand that seems to be global – as Pecha Kucha Night, without any pushing, has spread virally to over 100 cities across the world. Find a location and join the conversation.
